I am honored to have been working with Vanguard for the past several months to provide virtual leadership skills training for their crew. I have so much respect for the company and its team members. They lead with empathy, respect, and purpose.

Vanguard has a top notch Learning & Development Team. They embraced the spirit of experimentation - starting with two pilot workshops, collected data from attendees, then together we built a fuller series of workshops to provide the skills they need now as they work fully remotely and skills that will continue to be applicable in the future in hybrid team situations.

We worked together to make the sessions really engaging through me interacting "on-stage" with different Vanguard leaders, and there was an incredible team "backstage" gathering audience questions and pushing out relevant content to the audiences as I spoke. We had great turn-out with ~400-500 attendees for each live session!

Virtual Leadership skills are a path to improved employee engagement. Here’s why I believe this to be true…

🌎According to a survey of 19,000 global workers by the ADP Research Institute in 2019, average employee engagement was dismal: only 8% of employees who are not on a team were fully engaged. And 17% of employees on a team were fully engaged.

⬆️But there is hope - that number jumps to 45% for people that are on a team AND have deep trust in their leader. Deep trust is defined as employees knowing what’s expected of them from their leader and that the leader plays to one’s strengths.

Team leaders must earn this deep trust from their team - and to do that they need to know the nuances of how to lead and truly connect ACROSS DISTANCE. It’s not enough to be good at this with just the team members that you are co-located with.
